Course Description
Improvements in our capability to generate and collect information coupled with decreasing disk space
prices are pushing us toward a world centered on data management. Databases are at the heart
of modern commercial application development. Their use extends beyond this to many other
environments and domains where large amounts of data must be stored for efficient update and
retrieval. The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the use of database
management systems for applications.
This program is therefore designed to describe different databases, their characteristics, functions, pros
and cons.
- Define program-data independence, data models for database systems, database schema
and database instances.
- Identify Structure Query Language (SQL) statements used in creation, data integrity and
manipulation of database.
- Define functional dependencies and normalization concepts.
- Identify the methodology of conceptual modeling through Entity Relationship Model.
- Analyze and design a real database application.
- Understand and apply the theoretical foundation of relational databases and query
languages to create SQL data structure definitions and queries that meet identified
requirements
- Develop and evaluate a real database application using a database management system.
- How to create databases using linkup systems from Ms Excel to Ms Access
